Coats for Kids
From 2005 to 2014, The Kansas City Sertoma club had the honor of assisting KMBZ with their Coats for Kids campaign. Our team bundled up to collect used coats, donations, and purchase new coats for KC metro school districts every year between the months of October and December. For more information on this project please visit KMBZ Coats for Kids
Over the past few years, groups of our KC Sertomans have volunteered their service through the Project Uplift organization. This gift of time is truly what Sertoma is all about. Through this project we were able to prepare and deliver meals, clothing, and other necessities to area homeless. In the Fall of 2010, the Kansas City Sertoma Club and their affiliate organization, the Kansas School for the Deaf were selected to partner with the Royals Charities 50/50 Friday Raffle Program. Volunteers from the club and school alike, walked the stands at Kauffman selling lucky fans a chance at 50% of the monies raised that night. Our hard working teams earned ~$5,000.00 for the Kansas School for the Deaf supporting their elementary and secondary libraries.
In November of 2012, we had the opportunity to collaborate with our bi-weekly lunch partner, Maker’s Mark, and the Kansas City Power & Light District to hold the 14th Street Wine Walk. While a few of us volunteered to sell tickets and man the entry tables, this was an event meant to be ENJOYED! Our friends and family joined us as we visited a variety of P&L restaurants sampling their wine and food pairings. As partners, we were able to earn enough funds to provide scholarships to the St. Joseph Summer Deaf Camp, as well as purchase additional coats for metro KC school children involved with the Coats for Kids Project.
